Where has the time gone?! November already. The children have come back to school raring to go and have all had a fabulous week. It has been really tricky to choose, but these are the children we are celebrating this week…

Golden Award - Frankie for a huge improvement in behaviour and attitude to learning. I am really proud of you Frankie - keep it up!

Writing Award - Jacob for super sentences in RWI. Great use of describing words and lovely letters.

Maths Award - Chase for great number line work knowing which numbers were missing and explaining why

This week we have been learning…

English - our RWI groups have resumed with the children making good progress in reading, spelling, phonics and handwriting. We have now finished going through the letters of the alphabet and will now to trying to use the pre-cursive style in everything we write!

Maths - we have been working on ordinal numbers - first, second, third etc - and matching words and numbers. We have also been looking at number lines and missing numbers and how we can work out what is missing.

Science - we have been looking at the features of animals and how two animals can be mammals, but look very different. The children have worked with their partners to find two animals that belong to the same group, but have many differences, as well as similarities.

RE - we have been talking about Saints and how we can use these people as our inspiration and role models.

Topic - we will be studying our local area this half term and have started by things about Blackpool and what are our favourite things to do in the town. Quite a list!

Poppies - children can bring in money up until the end of next week to buy a poppy - 50p each please. It is lovely to see the children wearing their poppies with pride.

Work at home - please keep up with the daily reading and then handwriting practice, if you have time, and plenty of counting - one more one less - for Maths. Thank-you.

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY - Year 1 and 2 Nativity will take place on TUESDAY 18th DECEMBER with two performances, the first at 9.30am and the second at 2pm. These events will be ticketed, with each child receiving TWO tickets for each performance. More details to follow - but I just wanted to inform you all of the date asap so that you can start to make arrangements to attend one of the performances.

Have a lovely weekend……Mrs Hollinghurst and the Year 1 team
