All the children have worked hard this week, but these are the children who have really shone…

Golden Award - Joseph for being a role model in Year 1 - wonderful manners, super friendship skills and a positive attitude towards all aspects of learning.

Writing Award - Oscar for super Science writing about the features of different animals. beautiful handwriting and excellent language choices.

Maths - Award - To be awarded on Monday

This week we have been learning…

English - continuing with our RWI programme. The children are working on phonics, daily reading, spelling and sentence structure at their level. We are now up to ‘s’ in our handwriting programme - so nearly all the way through! Once we have made it to the end, I will be encouraging the children to use pre-cursive handwriting all the time.

Maths - we have continued with our theme of one more, one less, using the language least, fewer, how many and most. Lots of talking this week! We have also moved on to comparing numbers and using the language of greater than/less than.

Science - we have been learning about the different groups of animals and grouping them according, using the term mammals, birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects.

RE - this week we have focused on the people who love us and how they care for us. Some very sweet replies!

Topic - to help us think about the past, we have been looking at toys from the past and present. Interesting to see the toys the children recognise.

Well…..as you will have noticed I am back a week early from jury service! A fascinating experience for me - but I was dismissed after the end of the first week as they had too many people and not enough cases.

Harvest - thank-you for your kind donations to the Food Bank. Year 1 are collecting boxes of cereal, please just send them into class with your child. Thanks very much.

Work at home - keep up with the reading, handwriting, spelling and counting! Thank-you. I look forward to seeing you all on the 19th October to discuss your child’s progress this half term. If you HAVEN’T yet made an appointment, please do so by returning the slip that make home earlier in the week. Thank-you.

Have a lovely weekend….Mrs Hollinghurst and Year 1 Team
