I have spent a lovely morning with your children this morning. They have really risen to the challenge of being Year 1 for the morning. I just wanted to take this opportunity to mention a few things before the children finished for the summer, so that we can start with gusto in September.

Book Bags - Please keep hold of the one your child was given a the start of the year and keep using it next year. The book bags are the best thing for keeping letters straight, fitting in reading records, but importantly we have limited space for storing bags and these fit perfectly into my book boxes! No need for a new bag - one less thing to buy!

PE - this year has been Monday and Friday and unless we have timetabling changes, it will remain the same next year. Earrings CANNOT be worn for PE and school CANNOT remove them for your child, so please DO NOT wear them on these days. Only PLAIN, SMALL, SILVER/GOLD STUDS are allowed to be worn in school.

Uniform - please ensure that your child’s clothes are clearly labelled with their names so a super smart start to the new term. The children’s jumpers are all the same size and returning them to their rightful owner is nearly impossible if they are not clearly named.

TRAINERS - should be worn on PE days, but please DO NOT send your child to school with laces, unless they can tie them themselves. Thank-you with your help on this matter.

Hair - hair ribbons should only be in school colours and small please.

Reading - the most important of all building blocks. In Year 1 we have daily guided reading sessions as part of our Reading Write Inc programme and the children will also read with Mrs Veasey once a week. Books will be changed twice a week (days to be set in September) but please ensure your child’s reading things are kept in their bags.

Please keep reading, writing and counting over the holidays. A good way to keep the children writing is to do a little diary of their summer holidays. Just a sentence each day keeps their skills up and is a lovely reminder to look back on as to all the things you have done as a family over the holidays. I would love to see anything that they have done when we return in September!

If you go away anywhere over the summer, please could I ask you to bring us back a post-card. It will help us with our Geography work when we return - all about the world around and comparing and contrasting places with Blackpool. A family photo would also be lovely for our display ‘All About Us’ as our first RE topic is all about our families. I will ask in September, but I know the summer is a lovely family time, so a great chance to get some great snaps! Thank-you, in advance.

After this morning, I am very excited about the new school year and working with you and your lovely children.

Have a lovely summer……Mrs Hollinghurst and Mrs Veasey
