The children have been real Curious Clara’s this week as we have started our new topic, Chinese New Year! The children have loved working away in our Chinese Restaurant and Take Away. They have been talking orders, making food, writing shopping lists and ofcourse washing up! We have looked on the map at China and looked on the globe to see how far away it is from our country. The children have learned all about some of the traditions for Chinese New Year and we have danced like dragons to music in PE! Our story focus has been The Great Race, The story of the Chinese Zodiac. This explains how the Chinese Calendar selected the animals for the different years. This year it is the year of the pig!

We have continued our maths focus looking at numbers 0-10 and working our one more and one less. This is something which we will continue working on, have a practice at home when you can! In RWI the children have been working in their groups to not only blend words and sentences but to write words too! Using their decoding skills, the children can break the words into their separate sounds to write them. I think the children have surprised theirself this week with what they are capable of!
We have started to learn 2 more sounds in RWI:
oy - toy for a boy
oo - poo at the zoo

There will be no show and tell next Friday 8th February as we have a busy day planned.

Please check your child’s PE jumper over the weekend, we have 2 children who have recently lost their PE jumpers, pegs and lost property have been checked and it is so easy for the children to pick up the wrong one if theirs has fallen off their peg and been put on a different peg with the best intentions!

Have a lovely weekend,
Miss Dixon and the Reception team
